Embracing The Magic - Disney On Ice

With dazzling outfits and zealous air filled with shrieks and screams, at last the magic and music finally arrives to Leeds.

Since 2018, Disney on Ice has been performing all over the globe. How could I not possibly turn down the opportunity to go and see it.

From Ariel to Elsa, the two-hour show had everyone in high spirits. Enchanted by the agility of the performers I sat in awe taking in majesty of this triumphant masterpiece. After all it is Disney’s fashion to spread the magic and bring out the inner child in all of us. Children and adults alike revelled in seeing some of their beloved movies come to life. Pulling on the memories long forgotten of old classics such as Beauty and The Beast and Aladdin. Not forgetting the latest ones such as Encanto and every child’s favourite Frozen. And yes, before you ask, they did sing Let It Go.

Watching the vivacious nature of Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Minnie harked back feelings of nostalgia and brought some smiles to all.

Between all the children and adults wearing those iconic Mickey ears and waving wands, I could not help admire the outstanding costumes and skill of the performers. I was lucky enough to meet some of them before the show, meeting people with over 8 years’ experience conducting stunts such as jumping from ramps and being dangled graciously above air. One can only appreciate the effort that goes into making this show so tantalising. I even had the opportunity to check out some of the props, most notably, genie’s lamp which did appear to emit smoke every time the lamp was rubbed.

I also had a closer look at the outfits which were surprisingly heavy but studiously detailed and well thought out. Who knew an umbrella could be used as a jellyfish!

I must admit, I thought I was out of my comfort zone as I had put Disney long behind me. It seemed to be the same opinion from some of the adults around me too. but lo and behold, even I could not resist toe tapping to You Got A Friend In Me and perhaps

I may have even cheered a little when the famous Toy Story ball was flung into the air as we all tried so desperately to throw it back to the main characters of the show. As simple as the plot of the show may seem, its seamless segways into tales as old as time was admirable. Hearing the shrieks of children shout out film names to give clues to our main protagonists who are trying to save Tinkerbelle was a delight. And for a moment I too felt immersed in the plot.

The bright lights, pyrotechnics and formidable performers truly made this show great. It is beautifully executed and a joy to watch. After all that’s what Disney is all about…embracing the magic!

Disney on Ice continues until 5 March at First Direct Arena Leeds.
M&S Bank Arena Liverpool 16 - 19 March
