UNICEF’s Day for Change at Glusburn Community Primary School was a great success once again.

Glusburn Community Primary School is one of UNICEF’s Rights Respecting Schools and campaigning for children’s rights around the world is important to their pupils. This year, the theme was 'the right to an education'.

The day began with the staff cake decorating competition reflecting this theme and the results were amazing with Y6 teacher, Mrs. Donald, winning first prize. The cakes were then cut up for a tasty treat enjoyed by all.

Throughout the day, everyone learnt about countries around the world where girls cannot access their right to an education. Pupils took part in an art competition, designed posters and empathised with the struggles of girls through drama.

Olivia Bryan Charlton, a Year 6 pupil, commented:
“I learnt that there aren’t just girls not going to school in Afghanistan, but in Africa too. I enjoyed looking at all the cakes because of their messages.”
