Timi Dakolo - Merry Christmas Darling (Virgin)

Like me you had probably never heard of Timi Dakolo before. The Nigerian singer won the first season of Idols West Africa in 2007 and now comes his Christmas album.

There are some special guests on there too including Emeli Sande who duets on the album title track, Merry Christmas Darling whilst Jazz saxophonist Kenny G pops up on Decorate The Night.

Elsewhere there are his versions of White Christmas, I'll Be Home For Christmas and Silent Night.

Hallelujah might be better known with the Alexandra Burke version but with the Eden Voices of Gabon Choir in tow it does give this version a different spin on classic.

Where Did We Go Wrong ends the album that is not threatening but is perfect for this time of the year. It is unfortunate that his profile is not higher in this country as if it was then it would receive far more exposure than it will get.

Vocally Dakolo does remind me of Seal - both have the velvety vocal style.

It is a very easy listening album and is sure to put you in the Christmas mood.

I give it 3 out of 5
