The Treehouse Rises To The Top Of The Tree In Haworth

Think of Haworth and it conjures up a particular landscape, the Bronte sisters and the Worth Valley Railway. Now there is another reason to visit the historic village - the newly opened and independently run Treehouse Bar and Kitchen.

The venture is the first foray into hospitality for brothers Frank and Robin Stott. The duo also have a building company and a decorating business. They bought the building a few years ago turning the Treehouse into a contemporary restaurant and bar which opened in May after a major refurbishment.

The Stott brothers have employed Benji Comstive as manager. Benji was formerly the manager of the Potting Shed in Bingley. His years of experience running the popular Bingley pub will hold him and the Treehouse in good stead.

Although only opened for a few months it gives the impression of a well oiled machine, all the staff appeared to be attentive, friendly and confident.

It's split between three levels, the bottom floor can be booked for private parties, the middle section is the main public area where you will find the restaurant and bar, whilst the upper floor is fittingly called The Nest, where the cosy room can be booked for meetings or presentations.

I couldn’t help thinking that a few of the ideas behind the Potting Shed had influenced the Treehouse. The wooden theme and greenery did seem very familiar, though I am sure you would not get a huge living tree growing seemingly out of the centre of the restaurant as is the case at the Treehouse.

On a summer's evening the outdoor terrace overlooking the slow flowing Bridgewater Beck is a tempting proposition with the terrace catching the sun from mid afternoon onwards.

The wine list is extensive with two cocktails for £10 Monday-Thursday from 4pm

The menu concentrates on favourite dishes such as Burgers, Pizza, Kebabs, Salads and Treehouse favourites like Fish and Chips, 8oz Rib Eye Steak and Chicken Parmo, amongst others all cooked under the watchful and experienced eye of Head Chef Hayden Satterely.

We opted for the Cheesy Garlic Bread(£4.95) which was huge enough to be a meal in itself. Loaded with cheese and a touch of garlic it did not disappoint.

I decided on one of the Treehouses most popular dishes as my main - Yorkshire Burrito (£13.95). Beef brisket and onions wrapped in Yorkshire pudding, served with chunky chips and a much needed pot of gravy (the Burrito would be too dry without the gravy).

My sister chose the Bacon Cheeseburger served in a brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, onion and some very thick fries (£9.95). A succulent beef burger with some serious Monterey Jack Cheese.

The dessert menu aptly named Sweet Tree-ts has only four options, though I would recommend the White Chocolate and Strawberry Cheesecake served with vanilla ice cream (£5.95) which comes with a firm base.

I liked the welcoming ambiance, the mix of age groups and the quality of food. I felt it had a city centre restaurant buzz but without the high prices.

There is a public car park nearby which is just a few steps away, though you would have to know Haworth to find it - look for Gas Street.

Touching wood - I hope the Treehouse is a huge success for all concerned. I found it a tree-mendous experience all round.
