Following a year of strong investment, Carney Consultancy, a quality, safety, health and environmental (QSHE) training and consultancy firm, has announced a 25% growth in turnover.

The company predicts a 40% growth rate for the next three years, by expanding its services, extending its geographic footprint into the North West and Yorkshire and a focus on building strong relationships with clients across the UK.

Carney Consultancy has used 10% of its profits to prioritise staff training and development. Training programmes for each of its 16 employees, have provided clear progression routes, contributing to their individual growth and the company's overall success.

The company has also introduced new services beyond its core health and safety, investing heavily in training and offering a wider range of courses.

This year, the firm, led by managing director, Angela Carney and directors Martin Crammond and David Wadds, hit its 200-client milestone and, in line with its five-year business plan, aims to increase its retained customer base from 200 to 250.

Established in 2002, Carney Consultancy specialises in construction and engineering sectors, providing health and safety consultancy and training. Team members come from a main contracting and subcontracting background and have worked, as consultants, with some of the North East’s main companies. The firm works on an on-going basis with a variety of small to medium sized builders, specialist sub-contractors and management companies.

Managing director, Angela Carney, said: “We have worked hard to implement a five-year strategy which has enabled us to identify how we want to grow the business and where to spot areas of growth.

“We have made several significant hires across the year and invested heavily in developing further training courses, to the benefit of our clients. As they grow, we are able to grow with them and be their go-to company for health and safety advice.

“By way of example, we are working with several companies across the built environment who are investing in an advanced digital management system to transform safety cultures across all aspects of their businesses. In our external support role, we recommended the adoption of the Safety Culture management system as we were aware of the movement towards paperless activities and seamless document management and control. We designed a bespoke system and the core forms that are relevant to each individual company. We can then prepare a set of digital templates and plan how the system should be introduced. We also advise on the approach to training and change management, so adoption is smooth.

“We have increased our ISO accreditation offering and further invested in employee training. Four colleagues are in the process of undertaking or completing a Level 4 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment. We spotted a gap in the market, prior to the implementation of the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 which came into force on 23 January 2023. We took proactive steps to ensure readiness for the changes implementing the majority of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry recommendations, with regards to formal competency requirements for Fire Risk Assessors.

“The growing demand for fire risk assessments and fire door inspections saw us launch a new division in 2024.

“Most recently, we are working to assist businesses navigate increasingly stringent compliance demands with regards to the Building Safety Act. Many contractors struggle to interpret the Act. We have invested time and resources to provide support, working alongside them to assess competence, produce the evidence required and demonstrate compliance with the Building Safety Act.”
