On Test – Goodyear Vector 4seasons Tyres
I have always been fastidious when it comes to the tyres fitted to my cars. It does not matter how good the car or how capable the driver, worn tyres are a recipe for disaster.
Living in the North of England, where temperatures are low for what seems like half the year, winter tyres have made a lot of sense. I have a set fitted to my old Toyota Landcruiser and they have improved the car’s capabilities no end.
The downside of course is the need to change onto summer tyres when the weather turns warm, which adds an air of complication and expense. Plus, there is the need to store the tyres that are not in use.
In recent years, many manufacturers have introduced all-season tyres, the aim being to offer much of the benefits of a full winter tyre, but one that can be left in place all year round.
Our family Suzuki Vitara needed some new tyres, so this was the chance to try some Vector 4Seasons from well-known tyre manufacturer Goodyear.
The tyre is said to be capable of handling everyday driving challenges across all four seasons without compromising on wear performance. The tyre has been designed with deeper and wider grooves for better aquaplaning resistance.
When winter does bite, there should be excellent grip courtesy of the large amount on sipes in the centre of the tread. Goodyear say ‘the sipes influence each other at their intersection, stimulating their opening for better grip’.
The tyres were fitted quickly and efficiently by the good people at HiQ Tyres in Skipton, and we are now all set for whatever the weather throws at us over the next few years. I will report back in due course.
