Match Report: Guiseley V Marine

The FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round took centre stage for West Yorkshire Non-League side Guiseley as they faced Marine in one of the stand out ties for the round.

The two sides will face each other once again in a replay after drawing 0-0 at Nethermoor Park.

While the season had so far seen a mixture of results for the team also known as The Lions, they were hoping to recreate what could be the start of another memorable FA Cup run.

It was only a few years ago where victories over Accrington Stanley and Cambridge United were part of two successful times in the competition.

The sun was out and so were fans from both sides, with an even opening stage of the game playing out.

Guiseley had the first real opportunity of the game, the hosts Tom Denton flicked on to Kallan Murphy who reacted well but saw his shot go over the bar.

Marine responded moments later with a great chance, a low driving pass across the area found Sol Soloman who forced the hosts keeper Ollie Battersby into a clever save on the line.

While there were lulls in play, Marine so nearly took the lead just before the break, when a pass was not properly cleared and a cross had to be well held by Battersby.

The second-half was more of the same with both sides trying to gain territory, though chances were really at a premium.

Guiseley's youth prospect Miguel Valsau was brought on and his bright play caused the visitors problems, his pace and trickery impressed the home support.

The visitors so nearly scored in the 90th minute, a corner to the back post was nodded on by Manasse Mampala with Battersby having to show excellent reflexes to claw the ball off the line.

That was the last chance of the game and it ended a draw, with the replay taking place on Tuesday.

After the match Guiseley manager Paul Phillips said:
"I felt we didn't get on the ball enough, but we have had to change things, I felt we let the first-half pass us by, the biggest thing for us is the clean sheet, Miguel came on and he got people off their seats.

"It will be a hard replay, they will have around a thousand people there and we have got to stand up to it."
