Tom Sorsby and the rest of the England men’s field hockey team are gearing up for the final stages of the 2025/26 FIH Men’s Pro League, which will take place in London over the next two weeks.
The competition, which is known as the ‘league of the best’, brings together the top nine hockey nations from around the world to compete to become champions and lift the FIH Hockey Pro League Trophy.

On playing the FIH Men’s Pro League in London, Sorsby said: “I think it’s a super special time for us; friends and family get to come and watch us play but also people from the wider hockey community. As players, we're always trying to push for people to pick up hockey in the UK and people to pick up a stick and try a new sport if you haven't before or encourage those that have played to keep on playing.”

“If anyone can get down to Lee Valley to watch us, I would just recommend doing it because there are also quite a few of us from the north of England in the squad. We are a pretty mixed, geographically kind of based squad, so we've got people from all over the country. I know it's not the easiest to get down to East London, but if anyone can come and watch us play, just try and do it because we're playing some really exciting stuff right now and we'd love to try and get some more people into the game.”

Ahead of England’s final matches in London, they have already played eight matches in which they recorded three wins, three penalty shoot-out wins and two losses.

They currently sit 5th in the men’s standings on 15 points, behind fourth-placed the Netherlands, who are also on 15 points; third-placed Argentina (17 points); second-placed Australia (21 points); and current leaders Belgium (22 points).

On England’s previous results and form heading into their next matches, Sorsby said: “I think largely we've had a good pro league season so far. We started off out in Dublin. And we had a slow 1st game against Germany but then put some good performances in for the rest of those against Germany and Belgium.”

“And then some really good results out in Spain in February. So, you know, going against the Dutch and the Spanish and not getting beaten. I know we drew a few and won on a shootout, but not getting like beaten in those games was massive.”

In England’s 2025/26 matches so far, they have scored 17 and conceded 16 goals, which means that they remain in the fight for the top spot, which will guarantee them direct qualification to the 2028 LA Olympic Games.

Sorsby, who was named Player of the Tournament in the 2026 Men's FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers, has played in six of England’s Pro League matches in which they secured two of their wins and two of their shootout wins.

On his performances and what the league means for England, Sorsby said: “I’ve played in I think it’s 6, maybe 4 out in Dublin and 2 in Spain, and then unfortunately I picked up a kind of like knock in Spain, so I couldn't play in the final 2 games. So, yeah, just looking forward to playing as many games as I get the chance to play in London and trying to stay fit and healthy."

“Yeah, I would say for us as players, it's like you get to play regularly against the top teams in the world, and it always just gives you a marker of like where your individual game is at, where the team is at. Obviously coming off the back of Egypt on a decent bit of momentum, I just largely want to, I think we as a squad and I individually, carry that momentum on and keep playing some good hockey, keep enjoying it, and keep having fun.”

England men have two ‘blocks’ of fixtures remaining, with the first week of fixtures against Argentina and Australia taking place between Saturday 13th and Sunday 21st June 2026.

England will then play their remaining fixtures, against Pakistan and India, as they round off their 2025/26 FIH Men’s Pro League season between Wednesday 24th and Sunday 28th June.

On England’s remaining matches, Sorsby said: “I think the main thing is it feels like it's been so long since we've played a game as, like, an international group now. So we're kind of just all really itching to get going. You know, we’ve got a huge summer of hockey ahead for us with the World Cup after. So, yeah, I think we're just excited to be back on the pitch playing together.”

“We've had a good season so far, but, with the ones in London, we’re about to go into something like 8 games in 16 days (between 13th and 28th June), but the schedule is crazy. So this one can just throw up all sorts of stuff; you know, we're going to need to manage our squad well, rotate where it's needed and, yeah, have a hectic, hectic schedule.”

England men’s remaining eight matches will all be played at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London as they continue their fight to become champions of the ‘league of the best’.
