Catching Up With The New Catch Seafood Restaurant In Moortown

The Catch Seafood restaurant in Moortown has only been open for just over two weeks, but it already seems to have found a faithful following.

Finding established fish restaurants and revamping them seems to be what they do. Formerly known as The Fisherman’s Lodge; Catch, Street Lane has reopened its doors to welcome customers following a £200k refurbishment programme.

Catch pride themselves on delivering a casual seafood dining experience, using quality seafood sourced from UK ports. The investment includes a significant kitchen upgrade that will allow the restaurant team to broaden its menu and serve the top quality and healthy seafood dishes that the Catch brand are known for, alongside traditional fish and chips.

The menu offers salmon, seabass, tuna, halibut and cod, along with a specials board. When we visited, on offer was Crab Gratin with House Salad and double cooked chips for £15.00 or Whole Brill en Papillote with brown shrimp butter, served with tender Stem Broccoli for £22.00.

At the Street Lane restaurant everything is cooked exclusively in vegetable oil. Crisp batter, fish that slices when you cut it, double cooked chips, mushy peas and bread on the side is my idea of perfection. Catch will not let you down here.

My partner tried the Tempura King Prawns served with Sweet Chilli Dipping Sauce. Proper prawns too, unlike some places that try to serve limp offerings.

If you have room they have four options on the Dessert menu. I tried a very sweet and gooey Sticky Toffee Pudding served with salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream, though I wish restaurants would serve it with custard instead. Perhaps it is too much hassle to make custard! They do serve proper coffee too.

There is a good wine list which includes five cocktails . A bottle of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Champagne at £84.95 is there for a special celebration.

Throughout October as a special opening offer there is 25% off all day Monday to Thursday via a booking that must be used on their website, just use the code Welcome25.

Good service, a nice modern dining atmosphere and excellent traditional Fish and Chips - don’t let it catch you out.
