Age Well This Winter: Bluceira’s Guide To Supporting Your Body & Mind As You Age

After a strong year of boutique wellness retreats and glowing guest feedback, Bluceira is closing 2025 by encouraging people, particularly those embracing the later chapters of life, to embrace winter as a season for restoration, reflection and gentle routine-building.

Bluceira’s guests, aged between 62 and 87, often arrive with varied fitness levels, different life stories and unique expectations. What unites them is the desire to invest in their wellbeing, age positively and find an environment where conversations about this stage of life feel natural, honest and uplifting. For many, Bluceira has become a place where they can explore what “ageing well” truly means, without pressure, judgement or comparison.

While many view the colder months as something to “get through,” Bluceira believes winter is actually the perfect opportunity to reset habits, replenish energy and nurture both mind and body before the arrival of spring. As the team prepares for its 2026 season with four immersive retreats scheduled across May, June, September and October, they are sharing practical strategies to help people make winter a time of nourishment rather than depletion.

“Winter gives us permission to slow down,” says Bluceira founder Antonie Debuse. “But slowing down doesn’t mean stopping. For our guests, many of whom are redefining what wellness looks like in their 60s, 70s and 80s, this season can be an empowering time to deepen self-care, build strength gently and honour the wisdom that comes with age. And from experience, we know that with small, intentional practices, you can support your mood, your energy and your physical wellbeing in a way that sets you up beautifully for the year ahead.”

Bluceira’s Winter Reset: 8 Simple Ways To Recharge

1. Embrace the pause

A slower pace allows time to reflect on how your needs evolve with age. Winter offers space to listen to your body and adjust routines without guilt.

2. Nourish with warm, grounding foods

Soups, stews, wholesome grains and seasonal vegetables help maintain energy and support digestion during colder months, especially beneficial as metabolism and nutritional needs change later in life.

3. Get daylight every morning

Daylight exposure helps regulate sleep and mood, two areas that can shift as we age. Even 10–15 minutes can make a noticeable difference.

4. Move gently but consistently

Low-impact strength training, Pilates, yoga and brisk walks help maintain mobility, balance and confidence, all key to ageing well.

5. Create a winter wellbeing ritual

Journaling, stretching, meditation or reading can help you reconnect with your identity beyond roles, routines or expectations.

6. Declutter your routine

Winter is an ideal time to simplify. Create space for rest, social connection and meaningful activities that support emotional wellbeing.

7. Connect with others

Loneliness can increase during winter, particularly for older adults. A regular walk with a friend, a class or group activity can boost mood and motivation.

8. Plan something to look forward to

Whether it’s a retreat, a weekend trip or a creative workshop, anticipation is powerful—research shows it enhances wellbeing long before the event happens.

A Successful Year & What’s Ahead for 2026

Bluceira’s 2025 retreats welcomed guests from across the UK and Europe, many of whom described the experience as transformative, not just physically but emotionally. Beyond improved fitness and confidence, guests said the most meaningful part was the chance to talk openly about ageing, purpose and the next chapters of their lives.

For 2026, Bluceira will host four retreats:
5–12 May 2026
7–14 June 2026
24 September – 1 October 2026
20 October – 2 November 2026
