A Musical Miscellany

On Sunday April 28th Cantores Salicium, Bolton Priory’s principal guest choir, will present a concert of choral and instrumental music. The concert will be conducted by director of music, Lindy Williams.

An instrumental ensemble, Camerata Salicium, will consist of eight players, local amateurs, school students and two young professional horn players, recent graduates from the Royal Northern College of Music. This presents a rare opportunity for local players to work alongside professionals to perform Mozart’s Serenade in E flat, K375 for wind octet.

The choir will sing both sacred and secular music, including Stanford’s beautiful work for soprano solo and chorus, The Blue Bird. Other works are by Palestrina, Tchaikovsky, Saint Saens, Brumel, and two madrigals, one from England and one from Spain. This is a diverse programme, suitable for a spring afternoon in the beautiful surroundings of Bolton Priory. It is not to be missed.

The concert is on Sunday April 28th in the Priory Church, Bolton Abbey at 2.15 p.m. and you are invited to hear some of our rehearsal from 1.30 p.m. Admission is free (donations welcome). The programme lasts for around 50 minutes. Parking is free in the village car park for concert-goers and is available at the church for those less able to walk from the village.
