A-Maize-Ing Adventure: Lichfield's Space-themed Pumpkin Maze Launches Family Fun Into Orbit
Spread over 10 acres and home to more than a million maize plants, Lichfield Maize Maze has firmly established itself as one of the UK’s finest outdoor family attractions. This year’s Pumpkin Special took things to another level — with space-themed mazes, pumpkins galore, and plenty of out-of-this-world fun for all ages.
Nestled just off the A5 on the edge of Lichfield, this award-winning, family-run attraction has become a must-visit seasonal highlight. From summer sunflowers to autumn pumpkins, each visit offers something new — and this year’s cosmic twist promised an A-maize-ing adventure right from the start.

Our little team of explorers — Calum (8), Skye (5), and Calum’s friend Arthur (8) — were buzzing with excitement at the thought of tackling the twisting trails of the maize. Calum still remembered a maze misadventure last summer, but this time, with Daddy’s navigation skills (and a map in hand) alongside Uncle Reb's repeated chant of 'Oh no, we are stuck here forever', we were ready to boldly go where no family had gone before!
We were greeted by a friendly team member who suggested starting with the mini maze before tackling the main galactic challenge. But first, the kids couldn’t resist the old-school lawn games, hay bales, and toy tractors scattered across the field. Once they’d jumped, climbed, and giggled themselves silly, we were finally ready for takeoff.
The planet-shaped mini maze proved the perfect warm-up, and with only one wrong turn, the children were thrilled — not by our map-reading, but by the sheer height of the maize towering around them. It was like exploring a living spaceship of corn stalks!
Then came the main maze—a sprawling, astronaut-shaped maze, complete with ten interstellar pit stops and challenges to complete along the way. The twists and turns proved more challenging than last year's visit, but it was a true (albeit slightly muddy) adventure from start to finish. The trio beamed with pride each time they helped another family find the right turn, shouting, “This way to Saturn!” as if they were seasoned space explorers. However, they were equally delighted to squeak, 'Help! Every few minutes, we are lost!
Even with a few muddy patches underfoot (and plenty of squelchy laughs), the fun never stopped. In fact, the mud only added to the adventure! By the time we made it out of the maze, the children had muddy knees, big smiles, and a great sense of achievement.
We ended our day in the pumpkin patch, where we picked and cut our own pumpkins to take home. They were the perfect way to remember a great fall day.
All in all, we spent nearly five hours in the maze without even realising it. Between the pumpkins, games, laughter, and a few muddy splashes, it truly was an A-maize-ing day out for the whole family. Or, as Calum put it best on the way home:
“We had a corny good time!”
