Yorkshire Art Journal
Airport by Paul Digby
The Yorkshire Art Journal, Volume II: Solitude, which showcases the work of 15 talented Yorkshire-based artists (8 painters; 2 photographers; 2 poets; 2 mixed media artists; 1 performance artist) has released its first printed edition this autumn.

The 28 page printed journal expresses the concept of solitude in a number of articles relating to Yorkshire artists, past and present, plus a list of recommended exhibitions. All proceeds made from sales go directly towards printing costs, supporting this newly created, home-grown publication.

This summer, the Journal ran a special cover competition, won by York-based Argentinian painter Andres Jaroslavsky, whose painting entitled 'Madres' was chosen due to the impact of the emotive glare of the central figure on the viewer.

The work refers to the brutal Argentinian dictatorship of the twentieth century, during which many people were killed, tortured and went missing, never to be found. 'Madres' features on the cover of Volume II, having recently featured within an exhibition at Gallery Munro House, Leeds, earlier this year. An article explains the history and artistic process behind the work.

Yorkshire Art Journal aims to support the practice of local artists by showcasing their work, offering opportunities for coverage both in print and digitally, sharing artists' stories via its growing networks.

The editor of the Yorkshire Art Journal, Katherine A. Caddy, said:
"We are passionate about the exploration and promotion of local artists, keen to gain and share knowledge and insights into Yorkshire's art historical past, present and future. Our aim is to create articles that function as approachable, open resources for a variety of readers, including art historians seeking new research topics or sources, gallery owners searching for new artists to work with, artists looking for inspiration or locations to disperse their work, and people who are interested in seeing and collecting art within Yorkshire."

The printed edition is available online and is already set to be placed into the Hepworth Wakefield's resource room, a range of local galleries and independent magazine shops.
