Margaret Uttley - Sentinels
Linton Court is situated beneath the limestone outcrop of Castleberg Crag, close to the distinctive landscape of Malham, an area which has inspired artists for hundreds of years. The magnificent limestone landscape of Gordale Scar, at the northern end of the Craven Fault, inspired the British romantic painter, James Ward (1769 - 1859) in 1812, to paint "Gordale Scar", Tate Gallery, London. In the twentieth century, the artist John Piper (1903 - 1992) made paintings and drawings during the 1940s of this dramatic natural feature.
