Album Review - Ruby Turner - All That I Am (RTR Productions)

Ruby Turner is best known as being a member of Jools Holland's touring band. It is easy to forget that before this she had a successful solo career.

Her new album covers many bases such as blues, gospel, R&B and country music. Two tracks on the album are co-written with the chart topping Passenger (Mike Rosenberg).

You could imagine Tina Turner singing some of the songs on the album such as Putting You First and Hello Baby. The album opens up with a gospel track Mighty Hard Time. Passenger duets with her on Fire in My Heart, a country tinged track that suits both their voices well.

Trouble in Mind was inspired by Jools Holland and is a song that she has sung many times with his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra although the version on the album is a more stripped back version.

It is hoped that she gets to sing some of these tracks when she appears with Jools Holland as guest vocalist in his band when they play Bradford St Georges Hall on Friday 21 November and Harrogate Conference Centre on Saturday 22 November.

A diverse album that will appeal to anyone who has seen Ruby on the Jools Holland gigs.
