York Company In Contention For Prestigious Award

York-based renewables specialist Arcus has been shortlisted for a prestigious award for its work on the UK’s largest solar farm.

Arcus is a finalist in the Landscape Institute Awards for the work its Landscape Architecture team carried out on the plan to develop Cleve Hill Solar Park in Kent.

Cleve Hill, which had to be approved by the government because it is a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project, will generate enough renewable electricity annually to power over 91,000 homes and lower CO2 emissions by 68,000 tonnes a year.

The Arcus team, working from the York office, co-ordinated the statutory approval process and managed the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). They also designed the masterplan, the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) and Residential Visual Amenity Assessment (RVAA). The team also provided input into the Landscape and Biodiversity Management Plan (LBMP) as well as supporting the consultation process and representing the solar farm’s developers at planning meetings.

Greg Shillabeer, Managing Director at Arcus, said: “To be considered for such a prestigious honour is wonderful. It also clearly demonstrates that our clients have access to the very best technical expertise and that this expertise supports the largest and most important renewable energy projects in the UK.”

Arcus, a specialist in the renewables sector with offices across the UK and South Africa, supports some of the most significant renewable energy schemes in Europe and Africa.

The company is a finalist in the Excellence in Sustainable Infrastructure category and the winners will be revealed at an online ceremony hosted by BBC presenter Julia Bradbury in late November.
