The Potting Shed - Sowing The Seeds Of Recovery

You might think that during the lockdown things might have gone to seed at the Potting Shed in Bingley. Far from it, the team there spent the time wisely by painting up the wooden potting shed huts, the spiral staircase and giving the rest of the garden area a spruce up.

The Potting Shed is part of a small number of pubs serving tasty food across a number of outlets in Yorkshire including Halifax, Northallerton, Guiseley and Bingley. The theme throughout is of a gardening nature.

The garden area at the Bingley restaurant is in a sheltered sun trap - on a sunny afternoon the well rooted worries of the recent lockdown seem to belong in another season.

In the times of the “new normal” that we are now living in, numbers allowed in are restricted, social distancing is adhered to with plenty of space between tables, including screens put up besides tables inside the Potting Shed. A one way system operates and no one is allowed near the bar.

Each menu is single use so to keep staff and customers safe. The menu seems to have been cut down a little with some pruning.

The Posh Garlic Flat Bread priced at £4.95 comes with mozzarella and caramelised red onion and chutney. A doughy feast, if you have been digging the garden all afternoon you will be ready for this 'moreish' starter.

Another alternative as a starter is Tempura King Prawns marinated and coated in a bubbly tempura batter, served with a sweet chilli dip and a wedge of lemon to balance the two contrasting flavours.

The main menu tends to lean towards Pizzas that start from £8.95 upwards, Burgers and classics such as Steak and Ale pie, Freshly Battered Cod and a 28 day aged 8oz Rib Eye Steak.

The Yorkshire Black and Blue burger is not served in a bun but in two Yorkshire Puddings!

The pudding menu is short and (very) sweet. The chocoholic 4 Layer Choc Fudge Cake served with dark chocolate ice cream and chocolate flavoured sauce sounds like a dieter's nightmare, but for everyone else something to dig into.

A light Vanilla Cheesecake topped with berries and strawberries adds a summery theme.

Definitely repotted with new shoots coming through the Potting Shed looks set to bloom once again.
