The Majestic Harrogate, Winter Teeppee
On a foul winter’s night that’s blowing a strong south westerly and teeming down with rain, the thought of dining outside in a tent or should that be teepee, sounds as appealing as having to put up with another year of Covid restrictions.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel have erected a large Teepee on the front lawns of the hotel. Parking at the hotel is chargeable but if you inform the reception staff that you are visiting the Teepee then they will enter your car registration number on the system so that you get free parking whilst visiting the hotels latest attraction.
Once inside the Teepee your eyes might glide across to the fire pit - there is only one to warm up the whole place and depending where you sit it can be a tad chilly. We were first seated on the periphery - the wind and rain managed to blow through the bottom of the teepee and it wasn’t pleasant.
We asked to be moved to a warmer area and were glad we did - a far better experience. I found the staff obliging and the atmosphere appeared to pick up as we got warmer.

If you really want to indulge you could go for the Winter Afternoon “Tea-Pee” which for £19.95 gives you a savoury selection of sandwiches and a sweet which includes tea or coffee. You can upgrade to include a glass of mulled wine for £3.50 or a 125ml glass of Prosecco for £5.00 or your choice of Gin and Tonic for £6.00.
We tried what seemed to very popular- the Bratwurst Sausage braised in Yorkshire Ale served in a Brioche bun with onions & thyme with garlic roasted potatoes. The sausage was more like a spicy sausage that tasted like it had come from Harrogate not Hamburg. Mind you, it was just what was needed on a foul night. Priced at £8.50 it filled a gap with the roasted potatoes cooked just perfectly.

There are sides such as corn on the cob with 2 pieces costing £2.50 and hot roasted chestnuts for £4.00 along with cake of the day for £3.95.
Food is served from 4pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, last orders are at 9.30pm.
As we left around 6.30pm the band started to arrive which I’m sure would have warmed things up a lot.
If you fancy something different you never know, the Teepee experience might just well be your cup of tea.
