Support Available To Create New Dales Woodland

Grants are now available to help create new native broadleaf woodland in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas.

Trees are one of the best ways of combating the climate crisis as well as being vital for wildlife and our wellbeing.

Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust’s (YDMT) woodland creation programme, which is supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, is open to anyone who owns or manages land and will help plant woodland of any size including the costs of fencing and planting.

Carol Douglas, Woodland Officer at YDMT, said:
“We’re delighted to be offering support to those individuals and groups who want to create beautiful woodlands that everyone can enjoy.

“This is a key part of our Together for Trees campaign as well as providing an opportunity for people to get actively involved with trees and woodlands and the social benefits they have to offer.

“If you have a desire to create woodlands for the future then please get in touch for an initial conversation about the process. The next application deadline is 7th September 2020.”

The scheme forms a key part of Clapham-based charity’s Together for Trees campaign, which aims to plant an additional 40,000 trees this winter to reach its ambitious target of 100,000 trees.

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised nearly £2.5 million for YDMT since 2009.

Will Humpington, Climate Change and Environmental Programmes Advisor at People’s Postcode Lottery, added:
“Planting trees is one of the most important things we can do to mitigate the effects of climate change so I’m delighted that players can once again support this campaign.

“The creation of woodland is vital not only for wildlife and the environment, but for well-being and health too. I would urge landowners or groups in the Dales to get in touch with YDMT to find out more.”

To date, YDMT has supported the planting of 1.5 million trees in the Dales and surrounding areas ensuring long term conservation, landscape and environment benefits.
