Socially Distanced Down At Everybodys All Day Social, Guiseley

In a week when I have woken up to snow on the ground, having to scrape ice off my car windscreen and when the daffodils have drooped in the early April winds more than my resolve in the latest lockdown, the idea of dining outside might seem like a leftover from an April Fools joke.

The British weather can be notoriously fickle and April can bring daily temperatures of anything from a chilly daytime high of 8c to a balmy 24c - if you are lucky.

We are Yorkshire born and bred though, any inclement weather is not going to stop us. After being locked away again for what seems like an eternity for the third lockdown the thought of an Alfresco April seems an appealing alternative to the humdrum that for many, life has become.

They really couldn’t have come up with a more suitable title than Everybodys All Day Social - though of course we don’t want to get too social.

The Guiseley bar come restaurant is situated alongside a famous Yorkshire supermarket so parking is not a problem. As your eyes glance across to the outdoor seating area, the chatter of your fellow diners and the inviting smell of food being cooked makes you think that perhaps this isn’t such a bad idea after all.

Tables are reserved in two hour slots and if you are lucky you might be even seated in the small open marquee like area that comes with overhead heaters.

Most people are sat in their coats, though my partner offers that when you are in Spain a lot of the Spanish sit outside dining in the early spring sunshine with their coats on, though I observe that the Andalusian sun is much stronger in April than what you get in north Leeds!

The young couple seated opposite us look familiar. Having seen too much daytime TV of late I was under the impression that they had been contestants on Pointless. “Your faces look familiar“ I suggest “have you been on television or do you play in a band?” I ask going along the theme that everybody’s social.

Perhaps they had been winners on the show and when presenter Alexander Armstrong has asked his obligatory question “What would you do with the money if you won?” they might have said “let’s spend a whole month dining out in Alfresco April” - or maybe not as they disclosed that no, they hadn’t been on TV nor could they play a musical instrument. Oh well, never mind - at least the ice had been broken, perhaps the novelty of seeing other people was getting to me?

You are meant to order your food via the App you download but the App didn’t seem too Appy with it being hit and miss as to whether it worked or not. The reusable freshly santized menus were therefore a good back up.

The menu covers favourites such as sandwiches served from 12 noon to 5pm and all day items such as salads, Fish ‘n’ Chips, Steak and Chips, Burritos, Burgers and Hot Dogs.

Our starters of Everybodys Meatballs and Salmon Fishcake Bites were served very hot with my meatballs arriving in a plentiful marinara sauce. I sampled my partner's Salmon Fishcake Bites which tasted fine.

One of their best sellers is the Everybodys Special Burger, stacked with a Lishman’s of Ilkley hamburger, BBQ chicken breast, smoked bacon, Monterey Jack cheese and a fried egg which sounds serious enough to have your arteries in a panic.

Priced at £14.95 the burger is served on a pretzel bun with shredded gem, house pickles, tomato and fries. A great combination of ingredients that went well together.

I would suggest though upgrading your fries to chunky chips as my skinny fries were lukewarm. Being served in a wire basket is probably not the best way when serving outside as they can soon go cold presented like this.

My partner's Everybodys Steak Salad was priced at £11.95. Strips of flat iron steak served on top of a very fresh salad that was well presented. Cooked to your preference you might find yourself on a wining streak here.

If you have room all desserts will cost you £5.50 including a very yummy carrot cake and a tasty Strawberry Sundae, where if your imagination lets you can think you are eating underneath a Tuscan sky in Italy - until the cool Yorkshire breeze brings you back to reality.

Far from being a Pointless experience we both enjoyed our visit to Everybodys Social. Pleasant staff, good food and a fantastic outdoor set up - a winning combination.
