Social Distancing In The Remote Lakes!

In these troubled times more and more people are looking to ‘home shores’ for their respite from the madness of self-isolation.

The Lake District, apart from being well-known for its rather unreliable weather conditions, also has plenty of space so it shouldn’t be too hard to keep a few metres apart!

Here are a selection of locations – and hotel stays - with great vantage points from which you can enjoy the Lakes and its stunning landscapes, whilst practising that ever important ‘social distancing’. Start thinking about a break later in the year!

Wake up to Windermere
Guests can wake up on the shores of England’s largest lake with unrivalled views across Windermere at Storrs Hall.
Situated right on the edge the water and with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, the brand new Lakeside Suites bring the outdoors indoors, ensuring that no matter the weather, visitors can still enjoy views of the National Park’s most iconic lake.

For those who still want to revel in the fresh Lake District air despite the rain, a private covered terrace with a Japanese-style cedar wood hot tub comes with every suite providing a warm haven in the colder outside air.

Every little detail has been thought of in the Lakeside Suites including a heated boot and coat area to dry off equipment after a walk in the rain, plush sofas situated next to open fires and the oversized king-size bed are perfect for diving into at the end of the day.

The modern en suites also have duo bathtubs providing another luxury vantage point to take in those world-famous Lake District views and the perfect spot to watch the evening set in.

Prices start from £385 per night, bed and breakfast. For more information visit www.storrshall.com

A spa sanctuary from the storm
Brimstone Spa is tucked away beneath the fells of the Langdale Valley.
Available exclusively to guests on the Langdale Estate, the spa provides an idyllic location for guests to retreat to on a rainy day, all without having to miss out on the surrounding Lake District landscape.

Brimstone Spa has an outdoor relaxation pool that benefits from two bubble experiences and swan-neck fountain – all with stunning views over the estate, the surrounding woodland and beyond. A covered outdoor relaxation area can also be enjoyed with loungers perfectly placed in front of a roaring log fire and a warm Finnish Sauna right on hand.

Prices start from £350 per night, bed and breakfast. For more information visit www.brimstonehotel.co.uk

A (dining) room with a view
The Samling offers its guests a seat at the table with one of the best views in the Lakes.

Its fine-dining restaurant provides the ultimate shelter for foodies, with floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over Lake Windermere and the surrounding Lakeland panorama.

Headed up by Executive Head Chef, Robby Jenks, guests can choose between a three-course à la carte menu or five-course tasting menu, both full of progressive and seasonal dishes that incorporate some of the region’s most sought-after ingredients.

Prices start from £280 per night, bed and breakfast. For more information visit www.thesamlinghotel.co.uk

A cosy fellside viewpoint
With Velux windows in each room, visitors to The Yan can wake up to the relaxing sound of rain and breathtaking fell views.

A charming bistro with beds, nestled on the side of a fell, The Yan offers its guests an ideal base to explore the surrounding Central Fells. After a day in the elements, guests can retreat to their stylish yet cosy bedroom, or enjoy a board game, hot chocolate or just a natter in the hotel’s relaxing lounge.

Prices start from £100 per night (breakfast not included). For more information visit www.theyan.co.uk

A foodie escape from the downpour
Escaping the April showers is the perfect excuse to stop off for a Scandi treat at Mathilde’s.
Situated right in the heart of bustling Grasmere, gallery cafe Mathilde’s with its floor-to-ceiling windows offers its diners the perfect fell backdrop alongside a blend of Scandinavian flavours and interiors combined with a Cumbrian twist.

Using locally foraged and sourced seasonal produce, Mathilde’s has a range of brunch and lunch dishes on its menu including staples like meatballs to die for and Smorgasbords of delight.

Finish off with one of their beautifully-made Scandinavian pastries or cakes.
