Local Leeds Woman In Line To Be Crowned National Business Hero.

A local woman has been nominated to be the 2020 National Business Hero at the National SME Business Awards which will take place at the iconic Wembley Stadium later this year.

Emma Date from Attitude Dance has been nominated in the high profile category where 70% of the decision on who wins will be down to a public vote.

“This exciting category is open to a business or business person who have gone above and beyond in the face of adversity.” said Damian Cummins, the SME National Business Awards Director. “Our judges will be looking to see what they have done to support a local or national cause and the winner will be a true national hero.”

Emma from Attitude Dance began dancing at the age of 2 1/2, training in ballet, tap, modern and jazz at Toni Moss Academy of Dance in Kent, where she also gained her initial teaching experience. During this time, she performed with the Lewis London Ballet on three occasions, as well as competing locally and attending class at the Royal Academy of Dance in London.

She graduated with BA (Hons) Dance from Bretton Hall University in 1998 and started her professional teaching career as a Leeds dance teacher. Over the years she has worked for Leeds/Bradford and Kirklees Council, Bretton Hall University, Idee Fixe Dance Co, Leeds Sports Development Unit, Stagecoach, Syril Academy of Dance, Yorkshire Dance and for 15 years at DAZL.

“I’ve been trying really hard to keep our young people entertained and motivated and to keep a sense of unity amongst them.” said Emma.

“We switched to delivering virtual classes as soon as schools closed. Which soon became a programme of sessions and even invited a West End performer and international dance technician to deliver some sessions for us, as well as offering intensives, 1:1’s and practice videos.”

“I am very aware that families may be struggling financially at this time, so we started a ‘pay if you can’ subscription to keep the sessions available to everyone. This way some money was available to pay for teachers etc, but any child could access the sessions.”

“I was so surprised and honoured to be nominated by one of my pupils’ parents’s. I love what I do and all of my students mean the world to me.” she said.

“It is a very competitive field and therefore we are encouraging local people, local businesses and local organisations to get on line and vote for Emma.” Damian Cummins continued.

“With 70% of the vote being decided by the public the more support any candidate receives from friends, family and business contacts the more chance they have of winning.”

You can vote for your candidate easily www.smenationalbusinessawards.co.uk/public-vote and the closing date for voting is THURSDAY 18TH JUNE 2020.
