Lake District-Based Hawkshead Relish Celebrates National Recognition With Gold And Silver Award Wins

The winners of the Great British Food Awards 2025 have been announced, and Hawkshead Relish, based in the heart of the Lake District, is celebrating after earning accolades in two national categories.

Hawkshead Relish’s Brinjal Aubergine Pickle was awarded Gold in the Condiments category. Leading judge and editor of Great British Food Magazine, Holly Shackleton, praised the product, saying:

"Incredible flavour that continues to unfold long after the first taste. Complex and perfectly balanced, it is at once sweet and savoury, spicy and aromatic with black pepper. An absolute taste sensation! The texture is equally multi-dimensional without being impractical. This would transform even the simplest Indian dishes into a moreish feast."

Meanwhile, the company’s Kimchi Ketchup secured a Silver award in the Table Sauce category, judged by Lucy Charles, former Director of Operations at Borough Market.

Founded in 2014, the Great British Food Awards celebrate the UK’s most outstanding artisanal food and drink producers, spanning categories from flavoured gins to fine cheeses. This year’s judging panel included some of the country’s top culinary experts and influencers, such as Simon Rogan, Sally Abé, Nina Matsunaga, Dan McGeorge, Vivek Singh, and Seema Pankhania, offering entrants the rare opportunity to have their products assessed by some of the nation’s leading food voices.

About the winning products:

Kimchi Ketchup (Table Sauce Condiments) – Launched in 2025, this vibrant ketchup delivers all the flavour of kimchi without fermentation, offering a bold, punchy twist on a classic favourite.

Brinjal Aubergine Pickle (Condiments) – A spiced aubergine pickle with a warming kick, perfect with curry, fish, or even cheese on toast.
