Lady Gaga - Chromatica

Little did anyone know when Lady Gaga arrived on the pop scene back in 2008 with the playful Akon and RedOne co-written, Colby O'Donnis featuring Just Dance that she would go on to become one of the world's most innovative pop players. Having trialed everything from meat-outfits to country ballads, the multi-award winning, multi-Platinum selling singer/songwriter has shown that whether it is an album of classic covers or a Hollywood blockbuster, she is able to effortlessly rise to the challenge in a true method style and becoming whatever persona is needed to best align with her latest release or project.

Therefore it was little surprise that when her latest studio album, Chromatica, was announced, music lovers around the world let out a collective cheer. The fact the announcement was paired with the release of the already iconic Stupid Love, making it clear that pop-Gaga was back with a vengeance.

While Covid-19 related delays meant the wait for the full revelation was slightly longer than expected, two big reveal of two distinctly different collaborations only served the whet the appetite further. Teaming up with Ariana Grande for the uplifting House anthem Rain on Me, before unveiling the glitchy hypnotica of Blackpink collab Sour Candy, which harks back to the glory of her Fame Monster days with just a touch of the Artpop.

As Fun Tonight shows, Gaga is unafraid to reference her past within an album that manages to take elements of all periods of her career and fuse them together for one epic pop album. While the strongest echoes are of the direct pop sound of her earliest releases, the growth and experimentation in her artistry as her career has evolved is more than evident on what is easily her finest release to date.

While the electronic leaning 911, explosive Enigma, Vogue-driven Babylon and trippy Alice join the pre-released singles as album highlights, this is a record that will have you dancing with glee immediately.

Each period of Gaga has had its own strengths, but Chromatica is destined to become the definitive era. Gaga is back and better than ever before.
