Inaugural Wolfstones Hillclimb, At Holmfirth, Very Much On!

The organisers of the Wolfstones Speed Hillclimb have issued the following statement of clarification regarding the event, which will take place over the weekend of June 26th-28th (2020) as part of the Yorkshire Motorsport Festival.

“There seems to be some degree of confusion among enthusiasts, locals and competitors alike, about the Wolfstones Hillclimb, which we would like to clarify, we hope once and for all,” explains Yorkshire Motorsport Festival joint MD, Michael McErlain. “Our event, the inaugural Wolfstones Speed Hillclimb, which was announced in January, has never been in doubt and will take place, as planned – all other things being equal – from Friday June 26th to Sunday June 28th on a section of closed roads just outside of Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.

“There was another closed-road hillclimb planned at Holme Moss in August - the Holme Moss 100 - which was to have celebrated the 100th anniversary of the first Holme Moss hillclimb (a few miles away from our venue). This has had to be cancelled because of problems with the course.

“The two events are not related and ours, the Wolfstones Speed Hillclimb, I would add, is getting ever closer to having a full entry list, something that we are very excited about. It is very unfortunate that the Holme Moss 100 event has not been able to go-ahead, but we are happy to be able to give people who want to compete in this area the opportunity of still doing so.

“In addition, we are fully committed to marking the Centenary of Hillclimbing in this area at the Festival itself, in June. It is a significant anniversary for both local motorsport and Yorkshire as a whole, which is why “Hillclimb 100,” as we are calling our tribute, is a key theme of the Festival. We had a few of the cars we will showcase as part of the celebration at our recent launch. One such, a 1920s Tatra (pictured), which competed in the early days of the sport, will be one of the cars that officially opens our Wolfstones Hillclimb on Friday 26th June.”

The Wolfstones Speed Hillclimb, for two-seater cars manufactured before 1978, will take place over a 0.8-mile course outside the town of Holmfirth across the weekend of 26-28th June, under the auspices of the Mid-Derbyshire Motor Club. The course will be open for demonstration runs on Friday 26th, with competition starting in earnest on Saturday 27th and continuing on Sunday 28th. It is a round of the Jaguar Drivers Club Four Hills Championship.
