Fifty jobs created when new Hilton hotel opens in Sheffield

A new budget hotel will open on the site of the old West Bar police station creating fifty new jobs, both full and part time.

The West Bar police station opened in 1965 and was a landmark building towering above others in the city centre, but the building fell into disrepair and so was closed in March 2011.

There was talk of the BBC using the building for filming the Life on Mars police series, but it was found to be too dilapidated.

The work on the development should take 12 months and so the new hotel with 142 bedrooms should open for business early next year.

The Moorfield Group is now a new investor for the development as the original development company collapsed. Newby Management will run the site.

Velocity Village was developed between 2004 and 2010 and is a commercial and residential development, along with over 550 parking spaces.

Sanguine Hospitality will manage the 'Hampton by Hilton' economy hotel on behalf of the Hilton hotel chain.
