Christmas Day Treats For All The Animals At Yorkshire Wildlife Park

The animals at Yorkshire Wildlife Park are fully into the festive spirit thanks to a range of festive treats handed out by dedicated rangers on Christmas Day.

The 450 animals are getting a cracking Christmas with delicious goodies including fish, meat, seeds, nuts and fresh fruit and vegetables.

The wonderful wallabies and lemurs even got some crackers stuffed with cabbage to make their day.

Christmas Day is the only day of the year that the award-winning park at Auckley, near Doncaster, is closed but staff and rangers are working throughout the holiday period to ensure the animals are cared for and get some extra goodies.

The team dressed in Santa hats to deliver extra festive portions of fruit and vegetable in boxes to the meerkats and armadillos while the curious camels got some gift-wrapped presents along with their daily diet.

Dr. Charlotte MacDonald, Director of Animals said:
“Christmas is for giving and we always see that each animal has a special treat. “We always try to make it a bit special for the animals on Christmas Day and there’s a great festive mood as staff go about their jobs.

“It’s great fun at the park over Christmas as the animals love experiencing something a bit different and we make sure to give them all healthy treats.”

The park, a centre for animal conservation and welfare, will be back open on 26th December for visitors to enjoy a Christmas treat with a mesmerising walk-through experience allowing them to come almost face to face with some of the world's most beautiful and at-risk species. The spectacular Winter Illuminations continue from December 26th until January 9th,
