Cash Grants Worth £1,500 Launched For Creative Businesses In Barnsley

Creative business owners across Barnsley are being invited to apply for cash grants to invest in their post-Covid success.

The Bounce Back Creative Development Fellowships are aimed at Barnsley-based independent practitioners, artists and makers, as well as companies and organisations working in the cultural and creative industries sector.

A total of 25 awards worth £1,500 each are available and to secure one, applicants must demonstrate how they would spend the money to develop and strengthen their business.

They must also commit to taking part in Barnsley’s Covid Bounce Back business support programme designed to support the creative industries and being delivered by Mutual Ventures.

The flexible, Bounce Back programme focuses on post-Covid recovery and business development, including mentoring and networking.

This project is one of seven Prioritised Recovery Projects, part of a £2 million economic investment, funded by Barnsley Council and Sheffield City Region. As part of Barnsley’s Economic Recovery Action Plan, these projects will help the local economy bounce back from Covid. The programme aims to support people, businesses, traders, charities or community organisations to safeguard existing jobs as well as creating new jobs and businesses

Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “We recognise that the past 18 months have often been hard for those working in the creative industries, with many individuals and businesses losing work and income.

“This package of grants and focused business support is designed to help individuals and organisations to rebuild, re-connect and revitalise their businesses post-Covid.

“We hope the fellowship funding will allow artists and cultural practitioners of all sorts to innovate and take risks, develop more sustainable practices, work in new ways or reach new audiences.”

Business owners may, for example, use the Bounce Back Creative Fellowship to take part in a training course, trade show or conference; or invest in improved studio facilities, technology, research or consultancy.
