1,000 New Trees To Be Planted In The Dales

Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) has joined forces with United Gas & Power in a partnership that will see more than 1,000 new trees planted in the Dales this year.

United Gas & Power will plant 1,000 new trees with YDMT over the next year.

The energy supplier, based in Guiseley near Leeds, will dedicate a tree for every new customer that signs up to its 100 per cent renewable electricity offer.

United Gas & Power are one of the UK’s highest rated business energy suppliers and has already supported the planting of 60 trees, one for each member of its team.

Joanna Czternastek, Head of Marketing at United Gas & Power, said:
“The global climate crisis is one of the defining issues of our generation and as an energy business we believe we have a key part to play in supporting the UK’s agenda to reach a carbon neutral state by 2050. Actively promoting and participating in tree planting schemes is a practical way to demonstrate our commitment to the environmental agenda.

“Through the partnership with YDMT, we’re also able to help spread awareness with our customers and help them to take steps towards becoming more sustainable.”

She continued:
“We will soon be launching an independent research survey regarding attitudes to business energy suppliers in the UK to gain a picture of how people view the commercial energy industry. We’re interested to test how significantly environmental issues factor into supplier selection. As an incentive for people to complete the survey, we’ll be making a further donation to YDMT’s tree planting scheme.”

The Trust is supporting the planting of 27,000 trees this winter as part of its Together for Trees campaign.

Some of the staff from United Gas & Power joined YDMT at Pasture Wood in Grassington recently to help plant more than 350 trees.

It will create 22 new woodlands this year, as well as planting additional trees to mitigate the impact of ash dieback in several of its existing woodlands – like the one at Pasture Wood.

Leah Galloway, Development Officer at YDMT, added:
“It is fantastic to partner with such forward-thinking company as United Gas & Power. We’re really pleased that they are helping us plant trees in the Dales and making a significant contribution to increasing broadleaf cover in this special area.

“We’ve already been out tree planting with the team and seen their commitment to tackling the climate crisis by undertaking practical steps – as well as enjoying the health benefits of being outside. We’re looking forward to seeing the partnership develop further over the coming year.”
