V Festival 2016 - Day 2

James Morrison
James Morrison
Sunday got off to a good start with James Morrison: he appears on stage with sunglasses and wears a shirt, a change from wearing his regular leather jacket.

It's his 5th appearance at the V Festival he informs the huge crowd, they seem unfamiliar with tracks off his last album but they take over the singing from him on the choruses of Wonderful World, Broken Strings and You Give Me Something.

A huge part of the audience singing would probably been in Primary School when the songs were released but they know the songs word for word as do the older fans.

An artist who appeals to all ages, it was a timeless performance.

Zara Larsson might only be 18 but she has the confidence of someone much older. With her dancers it was at times a performance that owed a lot to Beyonce. This Ones For You showed that she might not be a flash in the pan.

Rick Astley returned this year with a surprise Number 1 album, he delivers tracks off the new album. " You've probably heard this track in your mums CD collection" he jokes as he introduces Together For Ever. He still gives us his version of Uptown Funk but of course it was Never Gonna Give You Up that everyone wanted to hear. A welcome return.

Jess Glynne now has a brass section that worked well on her version of Chaka Khan's I Feel for You but Hold My Hand, her standout track gets the crowd singing along.

It might be pouring down now but that does not stop Settle born John Newman from giving a performance that as you would expect from a Yorkshire man, is spot on.

Rain didn't stop play here.

The huge crowd too are on his side to give him their support.

By the time he has performed opening track Give Me Your Love he has already thrown his jacket into the audience.

He gives it his all although there is although there is a touching moment when he débuts a new song he has just written about his recent health, Save The Last Dance For Me is performed on his own acoustically, it's not unnoticed by the audience that he follows the song up with Not Givin In, the tracks he sang with Rudimental.

The title says a lot about his determination in his personal and professional life.

He ends on a high with his introductory hit, Love Me Again. As always it was a performance that was nothing less than 100%.

Sia visually takes a lot from Lady GaGa and the Pet Shop Boys, she even gives us her version of the song she wrote for Rihanna Diamonds but it was her own hit Cheap Thrills where things really got moving.

You might have mixed opinions about Justin Bieber but he does have some good tracks such as Where Are U Now, whether he was actually singing or miming them is debatable, it was a mixed performance too, I'm sure things will be better when he returns to the UK In October.
