Thriller Live - Grand Opera House, York

Fans of Michael Jackson have been watching this show for many years as it has been touring the country over the last 5 years or so, the show is so popular that it is still on in London, now in its record breaking 7th year in the West End.

The show has been seen by over 3 million people in over 30 countries.

I have seen the show a few times over the years and every time it is different, the core elements remain but they tweak the production each time and make it different. The night starts off by saying that we are going to celebrate the man, the legend and the music.

It is an energetic show and the young dancers are well rehearsed and never put a foot wrong. They make it look so effortless. The 5 lead vocalists do a fine job of replacing Michael Jackson's vocals with Sean Christopher and Rory Taylor standing out for me.

In earlier versions of Thriller they have had a young Michael Jackson on stage but tonight we had to make do with a vision projected on the video screen. In the past they have also had the old Jackson 5 line up complete with early 70's outfits but that has now gone too.

The video's of most songs are replicated on stage with Remember The Time and Smooth Criminal scenes being very memorable. It was just like watching the videos live!

It is a fast paced event and no scene is too long to get bored. Judging from the age group that was present Jackson's music still reaches across all generations.

Of course one of the best parts of the night is the Thriller scene where the dancers come dressed in costume straight out of the video.

With a live band backing the performers it was an explosive show. Led by Level 42 keyboard player Mike Lindup the band all appeared to be enjoying themselves. Lindup's soulful background helped the songs being played keeping their soulfulness.

As the line up all group together for the finale of Smooth Criminal it had been an entertaining night that I would not forget. Before you ask, yes, they the artists do the moonwalk dance in this 2 hour extravaganza. A great stress free night out.
