The Reytons - Doncaster
Graham Clark, Features Writer
A band has to be good for me to travel over 50 miles in what is one of the coldest nights of the year. The snow is coming down and Doncaster looks like it is part of Antarctica, in South Yorkshire.
Sheffield group The Reytons have already sold out The Leadmill in Sheffield - in the video to the single Reckless they have even got Bruce Jones (Les Battersby from Coronation Street) to appear. Now they are on a nationwide tour letting the rest of the country experience their infectious sound.
It's a tough time for guitar/indie bands - the singles chart is full of pop Bad R&B tracks and any band that even gets close to the Top 50 is lucky these days. That though does not mean that the bands such as The Reytons are not popular, far from it, tonight's gig is sold out and by the reaction from their enthusiastic fans, you would think that they are the next best thing - which is not far from the truth.

Yes, they do remind me a little of the Arctic Monkeys, in sound and the Yorkshire dialect added with a touch of the Pigeon Detectives.
"Alreet Donnie" says lead singer Jonny Yerrell as the band launch into Low Life. To witness the strong connection and conviction the band have forged with their audience you only have to see them perform Reckless live. Beers are thrown into the air in wild abandon and Friday night in Doncaster is now well and truly alive.
Kids off the Estate mentions Rotherham's Clifton Park and is one of the best numbers. A rousing punchy track it typifies what the Yorkshire act are all about.
If they can capture the spirit and energy they have across the rest of the country they will be fine.
Slice of Lime concludes a set from a band that have yet to be signed - though on this performance I doubt that will be the case for much longer.
