Snow Joke, Life’s A Beach In Abu Dhabi!
Phil Hopkins, Arts & Travel Editor
Beach Rotana. The hotel with ‘pooling’ power!
When it is snowing in Leeds and people take exaggerated pride in advising you that Lothersdale’s snowdrifts are higher than a pile of Yorkshire puddings stacked on the back of a tractor, there is something perversely reassuring in knowing that you are boarding a flight to Abu Dhabi and the searing temperatures of the Middle East.

And, whilst the short-term challenge may be simultaneously balancing your ski jacket, t-shirt and button-up cardigan whilst fumbling for your passport and boarding pass at Manchester Airport, there is the pleasure of knowing that your first hotel has the word ‘beach’ in its name!

The United Arab Emirates may boast all year-round sunshine, great shopping, theme parks and, of course the stunning Louvre Abu Dhabi, but, in a modern city of skyscrapers, where distances between attractions and local facilities can be considerable, choosing the right hotel in which to spend your leisure time, is paramount.

Louvre Abu Dhabi
The Beach Rotana in Downtown Abu Dhabi is a fascinating ‘hybrid’ hotel frequented not only by thousands of European holidaymakers, but also conference visitors and local residents, all eager to patronise its stunning Bodylines Fitness & Wellness Club, as well as the wider ‘Beach Club’.

Water Sports, a key part of the hotel's offering
Between the two they represent a place that has the potential to send the obese running for cover, since their facilities are second to none: a temperature-controlled swimming pool and kids’ pool, 120m of private beach, state-of-the-art gym, two studios for fitness classes, three floodlit all-weather tennis courts and two squash courts, a covered outdoor play area for children with supervised crèche, not forgetting of course, the wide range of water sports and health treatments courtesy of Zen the spa.

And following your Olympic workout – yes, they have underwater stainless-steel exercise bikes – you can recover at the pool bar…….

The pool bar at the Beach Rotana
………..or take sustenance in any of the hotel’s 12 world-class food and beverage venues – each with its own unique ambience, service and cuisine, and all located just seconds from the hotel’s stunning Grand Lobby area which captures beautifully the welcoming warmth of traditional Arabian hospitality.

The opulent Grand Lobby
Clearly food is an integral part of the Beach Rotana’s offering and its plethora of top-notch dining experiences include “Trader Vic’s” French Polynesian restaurant, the “Brauhaus” German restaurant & terrace”, “Prego’s” Italian restaurant & terrace, the award-winning “Rodeo Grill” steakhouse, “Benihana” offering American-Japanese specialties, “Indigo” for Indian Fusion cuisine and “Finz” yet another award-winning seafood venue.

Throughout the hotel intimate corridors usher you into 413 rooms, many sea-facing, including 47 elegant suites, eight dedicated Club Rotana floors and two Royal suites, which provide business travellers and holidaymakers with exclusive privileges.

But, for all its considerable size – there are more than 3,700m² of indoor and outdoor conference space - the Beach Rotana has kept itself friendly and intimate by cleverly integrating style and variety with elegance and charm.

A real jewel on the Abu Dhabi hospitality scene, the Beach Rotana Hotel has been around for 25 years and is still one of the country’s premier properties with its stunning Al Thuraya Grand Ballroom and amazing facilities.

Many of us talk about winning the lottery but, why wait for the impossible? The Beach Rotana is a hotel worthy of society’s finest, but if you want something just a little bit special – a Royal suite for example - then it’ll cost more than many but less than most and, at the end of your stay, you will undoubtedly feel like the residents of Buckingham Palace!
