Shane Filan - Alhambra, Bradford

I interviewed tonight's support act, Nikki Loy before the tour and she was excited about being the support act on the Shane Filan tour. I informed her that the Alhambra was one of the most beautiful and prestigious venues on the tour.

"They told me this was a gorgeous place and they were not wrong" she says as she starts her short set. Without the addition of her band it left her strong voice to shine through over the acoustic versions of her memorable tracks. Sounding like a rockier Taylor Swift mixed with a bit of Joni Mitchell her personality and charm shone through. Standout songs were Tongue Tied and Reverie. A great start to the evening.

Outside his mainly female fan base Shane Filan will always be associated with Westlife, but since the band split up he has had a successful solo career. Any man here tonight (and there are a few) have probably been brought along with their other female half.

Filan comes across with a believable charm and delivers a friendly banter between the songs. He seems a lot more at ease than when he was in Westlife and jokes and dances at random whilst introducing the songs. He does not deny his past in Westlife and why should he as they had some great songs.

"Let's hear you Bradford" he entices the audience as he enters the stage to Everything To Me. Unlike a lot of performers these days, he mentions the city he is performing in many times throughout the evening.

Yes there are the ballads but he does a good version of Walk the Moon's hot Shut Up and Dance With Me. We get the obligatory acoustic set mid-way through the night.

He keeps telling the audience it's not a Monday night but a Saturday night; not that the fans needed to be told this as they were up on their feet from the moment he walked on stage.

Uptown Girl closed a concise and entertaining set before he was back on stage to perform You Raise Me Up. A fitting end to what had been a brilliant show.
