Q&A With Julie Pickersgill, Advanced Digital Dynamics
QYour first job?

AMy first job was at 16 at Burton menswear in Leeds. It progressed from being a summer placement to a full time role where I became one of the company's youngest supervisors at the age of 18, managing a 25-strong team, all of whom where older than me!

QHow did you get into the career you're in?

AAfter 15 years working my way up the ranks in the retail sector, I joined my partner Jonathan Belbin at Advanced Digital Dynamics in 2006 and have since grown the business from a £300k to a £3.4m turnover which serves a client base spanning sole traders through to blue chip companies and NHS Trusts.

QWhat's the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?

ANever assume anything

QYour worst mistake in the workplace?

AI stayed too long in an environment that was stifling me, the culture was too prescriptive and it hampered my creativity. If I could go back, I would have moved on sooner.

QMost embarrassing/funniest thing that's happened to you?

ANo comment!!

QIf you weren't doing what you're doing now, what would it be?

AI love my role at Advanced Digital Dynamics (ADD) Ltd and being key to driving our exciting vision of achieving consistent growth and making acquisitions. 2014 is a particularly formative year as we expand to a contemporary new warehouse and office space.

QFavourite thing about our beloved Yorkshire?

AIt has to be the people. They refuse to be beaten down and are always resilient, upbeat and positive.

QThree desert island items?

ASun cream, a mountain of books and an endless supply of fizzy water

QFavourite hobbies?

AI am an avid Manchester United fan, I have supported them since I was thirteen years old. I love to go watch a game whenever I get chance.

QWhat would you like people to remember you for?

AFor being tenacious, determined and developing our employees to reach their full potential. Our journey has marked consistent growth through the recession and our three strong team is now at 24 which I'm extremely proud of.
