Now Thats What I Call Music! 101
Graham Clark, Features Writer
If you really want to know what the singles charts are like at the moment the Now compilations are always a good barometer of where things are at.

Spread over two CD's the compilation has hits from the last two months and some which are just taking off now such as the new Take That track, Out of Our Heads. If you want to hear Take That in a new light then this song might be a bit of a surprise.

R&B has had a strong hold of the singles charts this year and CD2 reflects that with songs such as Funky Friday by Dave and Fredo, 079ME by B Young, No Brainer by DJ Khaled featuring Justin Bieber, Chance The Rapper and Quavo. If you heard the first few tracks here you would think you were listening to the Best of R&B rather than a NOW compilation.

Thankfully things get more upbeat later on with the uplifting house tinged Back and Forth by MK, Jonas Blue and Becky Hill whilst the sublime Just Got Paid by Sigala and Ella Eyre and Meghan Trainor featuring French Montana confirms that at least someone is making good dance tracks.

CD1 has more mainstream tracks such as the new single from George Ezra and Hokd My Girl. The recent success of Ezra shows a good pop song will always cross over to the masses. Rita Ora sounds good on Let Me Love You and it is good to see the return of Ellie Goulding with Close To Me, though even she is going in a R&B direction now.

Celebrating recently the 100th Now That's What I Call Music compilation this is a good start for the next 99 releases!

I rate the album 3 out of 5
