Mustaine and Megadeth On Storm Form
After Dave Mustaine left Metallica he formed thrash metal group Megadeth who for the last 20 years have created a niche in the rock market.
Always an unpredictable character, Mustaine is much like Guns N Roses lead singer Axl Rose: you never know what sort of gig you are going to get.
Mustaine played true to form in Manchester as he stormed off the stage after 30 minutes due to "technical and lighting issues".
Their new album Supper Collider is a return to form, though tonight the band relied on their strong back catalogue to satisfy the crowd. 'Hangar 18' and 'Countdown to Extinction' still sound as good now as they did back when they were recorded and proved great tracks to start the gig.
The new album features a Thin Lizzy cover, 'Cold Sweat' and garnered one of the more favourable responses to tracks from the new album. The cover demonstrates where Mustaine's influences lie.
After the 10 minute delay it was hard to reignite the vibe the band had built up, though with 'Sweating Bullets' and 'Dawn Patrol' they started to win back the fans who ranged from young teens to original fans now in their mid-forties.
'A Tout Le Monde' is a surprise ballad from the band and still one of the best tracks they have recorded.
Finishing off with the classic 'Peace Sells', the band's skull mascot appeared on stage dressed in a suit. Mustaine apologized for the earlier disruption which by this time had probably been forgotten as the encore unleashed another Megadeth classic 'Holy Wars'.
