Leeds Restaurant To Host Christmas Event To Save Children’s Lives
One of Leeds’ top fine-dining restaurants has announced it is to host a festive evening of song, food and drink and is donating the full ticket cost directly to the charity Action Against Hunger.
Sing For Your Supper is an event that Chef and HOME co-founder, Elizabeth Cottam, has traditionally held at her own home in West Leeds for the last four years.
“Each December I would invite a group of friends around to my house along with the local church choir; we’d stand around the tree singing carols and I would cook for everyone; I would have a whip round at the end and all the money would be donated to various causes,” she explains.
“Now Mark and I have the restaurant I want to open the event to the whole of Yorkshire and use our excellent reputation to help promote this wonderful charity.”
On Tuesday 12th December St Paul’s Church Choir of Drighlington will don their Christmas jumpers and join the team at HOME to lead ticket holders in a Christmas Carol sing-along which will be followed by a yuletide feast prepared by Chefs Elizabeth, Mark Owens and their team.
Tickets cost £42 – the exact amount it costs to save the life of a malnourished child - and every penny of that will go to the charity.
Action Against Hunger is a global humanitarian organisation that takes decisive action against the causes and effects of hunger; they save the lives of malnourished children ensuring access to clean water, food, training and healthcare.
Colette Burroughs-Rose is the Regional Restaurant Campaign Officer for the charity. She says:
“There is no better way to enter the season of giving than with a festive celebration of song, community and excellent food.
"We are extremely grateful to the team at HOME for donating all proceeds from this event to Action Against Hunger.
"Diners can sing, eat and be merry with added gusto, as they will be helping malnourished children around the world to survive and grow up strong.
"Join Sing For Your Supper and raise your voice for a world free from child hunger.”
It costs £1 to feed a child for a day with life-saving therapeutic food and £42 to save the life of a severely malnourished child; 92p from every £1 donated to Action Against Hunger goes directly to their projects around the world.
“Because the team at HOME is all about food and people, it made complete sense to team up with Action Against Hunger,” explains Elizabeth. “When I learnt how little it costs to save a child I knew I had to do something to help raise the profile – and help save children. Sing For Your Supper is an annual event but I intend to work with the charity long term.”
At the time of the event HOME will be approaching its four-month anniversary and its focus on relaxed, informal fine dining, and knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly staff has already earned it a host of regulars, a celebrity following and excellent reviews, with The Sunday Times calling it ‘a little star in Not London’.
“I think it goes without saying that I want a full house – the more people that buy tickets – the more lives we’ll be saving,’ Elizabeth concludes.
“I would encourage people to book now, buy a Christmas jumper, get their singing voices at the ready and join us for what I promise will be a fabulous, festive celebration for a truly wonderful cause.”
