Interview:Vant

Vant are currently riding high with a sold out European tour and a lot of love coming their way from BBC Radio 1. To celebrate, we asked frontman Mattie to create a playlist for us;

What song always makes you...

Smile

In The Summertime - Mungo Jerry

What's not to love? A sunshine, feel good anthem that is guaranteed to turn that frown upside down.

Contemplate

The First Days of Spring - Noah & The Whale

The whole album makes you contemplate love, life and everything in between. Late night, whiskey drinking, ear candy.

Cry

True Love Will Find You In The End - Daniel Johnston

Few bring more tears to the eye then Daniel Johnston. I saw him live once in this beautiful concert hall in Barcelona. Such a troubled soul that lost his mind to rock n roll. He will never know how important he is and how much of an influence he has had on so many artists.

Laugh

Seasons In The Sun - Terry Jacks

"Goodbye Papa it's hard to die..." - something about the juxtaposed nature of the upbeat floaty music and the incredibly dark lyricism makes me gaggle every time

Want to work out

Computer Camp Love - Datarock

Great running track. Upbeat and fun, with Grease parody backing vocals to boot! If you dig this track listen to the whole album while you pump some iron, it's all in a similar vein.

Reminisce

Sunflower - Low

Things We Lost In The Fire was one of the first records my Dad & I shared when I was old enough to stay up late and drink whiskey with him. Every time I hear it, it takes me back to that moment of discovery.

Relax

Pink Moon - Nick Drake

The tone of his voice, the simple arrangement, the glorious structure. Sink back into that velvet field and watch the world go by

Feel Determined

Hanging On The Telephone - Blondie

Debbie Harry didn't find recognition with Blondie until the age of 33, they went on to be one of the most successful bands of all time. Their story shows that if you truly believe in something (and it's good enough) eventually it will break through and resonate with people.

Dance

You Could Easily Have Me - Metronomy

You can dance to any track by Metronomy but this dirty, guitar led, instrumental banger which opened there début album 'Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe). The intensity of the build is epic enough but it's the moment when it finally drops and introduces the world to the most infectious synth line of all time that makes you stop everything and completely lose your mind. Complete genius.
