Gig Review: The Script - Sheffield Arena

On entering the venue and seeing the lengthy queue for the ladies toilets it would appear that the majority of The Script's fans are female but once inside the main auditorium it becomes clear that the band have a very mixed audience both male and female with a wide age group.

It is easy to see why: their music is melodic and accessible much like Bryan Adams and more recently Train and Imagine Dragons.

Lead singer Danny O'Donoghue walks along the side of the arena singing the opening number, Paint the Town Green, as he strides out accompanied by a procession carrying green illuminated batons. It might sound cheesy but it worked and someone had put some thought into the idea.

He joins the other group members Mark Sheehan and Glen Power on stage who are also joined by a keyboard player and bass player for the live version of The Script.

"Are there any Superheroes in the crowd tonight?" asks O'Donaghue as he introduces their hit single Superheroes. If You Could See Me Now and Man on a Wire, follow and you can hear then why they have such a big appeal.

O'Donoghue borrows a fans mobile fan to ring up the fans ex-girlfriend as he sings the track, Nothing, to then down the phone!

The fans at the back of the arena get chance to see the band close up as they play some tracks on a small stage at the rear of the arena. It is an interactive gig as the lead singer walks through the audience with a selfie-stick taking photos of the crowd,

Their big hit, Hall of Fame closes the night as streamer and confetti shower the audience. It had been an entertaining night and as one of their songs says, The Energy Never Dies.
