Double Helping For Opera Buffs

Aida and Amneris
Aida and Amneris
Award-winning opera producer Ellen Kent brings two new productions to the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford, this Sunday and Monday with the opening of Aida and La Boheme for two nights only.

Impresario Kent is promising magnificent new sets, international soloists, a highly-praised chorus and stunning orchestra.

As the Autumn gloom of West Yorkshire continues, Aida promises to re-create the grandeur and sunny climes of Egypt at 7.30pm this Sunday, whilst one of Puccini's most romantic operas La Bohème is brought to the stage at the same time the following evening on Monday 6 February.

Aida is one of Ellen Kent's grandest operas.

This tragic story of war, jealousy and revenge, centred around the doomed love of the beautiful Ethiopian slave girl, Aida, and the Egyptian hero, Radames, is brought to life in a production set against one of the greatest pieces of music Verdi ever wrote, including the well-known arias Celeste Aida, Ritorna Vincitor and the classic Triumphal March. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.

Regarded as one of Puccini's most romantic operas, Ellen Kent's production of La Bohème features beautiful sets and costumes that reflect the Bohemian art of the period, together with a brass band and snow effects. Musetta's dog will also make an appearance! Set in Paris, it tells the tragic tale of hopeless romance focusing on the love between seamstress and consumptive Mimi and the penniless poet Rodolfo. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
