Business Profile: Ed Sutcliffe Of MET Marketing
Kirstie Wilson, Features Writer
Ed Sutcliffe
Ed Sutcliffe is Managing Director of MET Marketing, a Leeds based recruitment consultancy that specialises in the marketing industry.

What is your business motto?

Progressing People Progressing Business

How do you make contacts which are useful for business?

Constantly speaking, meeting and networking with individuals. Everybody is useful to our business and we look long-term so hold as many high level conversations as we can on a daily basis. We can’t escape the growth of social channels and ‘speaking’ with individuals virtually but physical interaction is still the best way.

What makes your business different?

We have a clear vision, mission and set of values that forms the bedrock of how we work, train and develop our colleagues. We start internally.

What do you always have with you?

Mobile phone

Do you dress-up or dress-down for business?

Down

Which person has inspired you most in your business life and in what way?

I am not one for idols so I would guess my dad and the fact he ran his own business successfully for over 30 years.

What's your proudest achievement in business?

Personally I have developed relationships with certain clients that have now lasted over 10 years.

What's your company's greatest asset?

Three directors who have a genuine desire to change how recruitment is viewed.

Do you use social media and if so with how much success?

We use Social to engage and build our brand along with some tangible commercial results from LinkedIn. It is difficult to put a figure on but I would say it is significant.

If you hadn't gone down your chosen career path, what would you be doing?

I started out in marketing and for personal reason then got into recruitment so most probably marketing.

Give us one tip for a successful business

Always be learning but when a path is chosen stick to the plan to avoid constant discussion and no action.

How do you relax away from work?

Gym and golf but I am rubbish at golf so can be four hours of falling out with myself!
