Big Skipton Quiz 2018
Mike Davies presenting the Winning Team with the Big Quiz Cup, and a cash prize of £120.
The Principle Trust Childrens Charity hosted the 4th Annual Big Skipton Quiz at the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton recently.

Drystone Radio acted as Quizmasters and Hosts for the event.

Over 140 people from local businesses, friends of the charity, partners and company employees and also members of the general public attended in support of the charity, which provides free seaside holidays and respite breaks for underprivileged and disadvantaged children throughout Yorkshire.

Mike Davies MBE, Founder and Chairman of the Charity updated the attendees with what has been happening over the last seven years of the charity since inception in 2011.

In excess of 1,950 children have enjoyed free holidays in the 3 holiday homes in Blackpool and since June 2018 the charity has acquired another home at Ribblesdale Park in Gisburn, which has been equipped for disabled and other more severely disadvantaged children. Already vision impaired, autistic, downs syndrome, deaf children and families have taken advantage of the more sedate surroundings of the log cabin at Ribblesdale Park.

The charity needs to raise around £40,000 per annum to run the 4 holiday homes and every penny raised goes into the charity to support the free children's holidays. Since 2011 in excess of £440,000 has been raised to buy the homes and run them.

The Quiz, now in its 4th Year tests the knowledge of teams of six people with questions about Skipton and the surrounding locality. Other topics of General Knowledge, Who Said, Geography, In the News, Music and a Picture Round make up the rest of the quiz.

Scoring was very close between teams and the eventual winners were the Operations Team from Principle Healthcare.

Local companies supplied raffle prizes and together with this year's quiz over £1,250 was raised, which is sufficient to pay for 4 individual week's holidays for families at the holiday homes.
