Album Review: Tony Momrelle - Keep Pushing

You may know Tony Momrelle through the tracks he has sung with Incognito over the last few years as well as some house tracks he has released.

I was expecting the album to be more jazzy than it is, instead Tony has decided to tread a more soulful path with Stevie Wonder being a strong influence especially on the opening track, Keep Pushing. He has a strong soulful voice you wonder why it's taken so long for him to kick start his solo career again.

You Pick Me Up is on the tradition of The Real Thing, in fact you could imagine a group like Blue doing the track, that's not to dismiss the track, it's just to alert you to the commercial aspect of the song.

He does a strong cover of the Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway hit from 1979, Back Together Again with the female vocalist this time being Chantae Cann. This track is the one closest to his Incognito work.

On the track A Million Ways it echoes long summer days; it will sound great in sultry July rather than gloomy January.

Come and Get It continues with the quality vibe and is one of the standout tracks on the album. Most of the tracks were co written with Momrelle and Oli Lazarus from Reel People who always produce soulful music that is of a high quality. We are in good company here.

The album concludes with Remember, one for the John Legend fans.

Just goes to show that if you dig deeper and look beyond the mainstream album charts there is still plenty of strong talent out there. Deserves attention from anyone who wants something a bit more than the manufactured pop served up every day.
