Album Review: The Nations Favourite 80's Number Ones

Based on the recent ITV show, The Nations Favourite 80's Number Ones, this 3 CD compilation draws together some of the best of the big tracks from the 80's. It was the decade of shoulder pads and leg warmers and like the fashions of the time, some tracks sound dated now whilst others sound fresh still.

Kajagoogoo may have had a silly name but Too Shy still sounds good today as does Yorkshire's own The Human League with Don't You Want Me. A lot of these acts are still together and touring. T'Pau being a case in point. They visit the Victoria Theatre in Halifax along with Nik Kershaw and Go West all on the same bill on Sunday 22 November, no doubt they will be singing China In Your Hand, which is featured on CD2.

Spandau Ballet with the eternal hit, True are represented here, they too performed a gig at Doncaster Race course the other week.

The overblown pomp of the decade is featured with Duran Duran and The Reflex, they appear in Yorkshire at the Leeds Arena on Saturday 28 November.

The groundbreaking hit from The Pet Shop Boys with West End Girls still sends a shiver down the spine with its minimal yet powerful production.

You probably have most of these tracks on vinyl or cassette but now you can have them all in one package.

If you were there it's time to re live all those memories again. A fine collection.
