Album Review: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Chasing Yesterday (Sour Mash Records)

With Noel Gallagher being the one who wrote most of the songs for Oasis it was always going to be him who had the greatest success after the band split up. Liam Gallagher's band, Beady Eye has now disbanded so for the Oasis fans this album is hugely anticipated.

The album starts off with the track Riverman; it is not your typical Noel Gallagher track with its saxophone and its 70's influences.

There are many influences on the album such as Glam Rock on the track The Mexican and a touch of jazz on The Right Stuff

On the track while The Song Remains the Same he goes over his memories and he sings about "Walking the Streets of my Life", the track reminds me of Tears for Fears too.

In the Heat of the Moment is the most typically Oasis track here with its great rousing chorus, he can still write a good song.

The album closer Ballad of the Mighty 1 has ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Mar on guitar duties.

It is a fine return and a worthy purchase.

4 out of 5.
