Album Review: Incognito - Live In London, 35th Anniversary Show

Last July Incognito celebrated their 35th year together by performing a landmark gig at the o2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London.

When you listen to the album it makes you wish that you had been there as they do not often perform many of these tracks live especially with guest vocalists such as Carleen Anderson and Mario Biondi.

The 2 CD album opens up with a blazing jazzy instrumental entitled The 25th Chapter. The band visit the whole of their career on the album so you get such classics as Giving It Up, Still A Friend of Mine and Always There.

Italian singer Mario Biondi makes a guest appearance on Lowdown, the Boz Scaggs track that Incognito made their own. Biondi then joins the band to perform his own hit from 2005, This Is What You Are. The live version sounding as good as the original with Biondi sounding not unlike Barry White.

The aforementioned hit Always There sounds as energetic and even more lively in its live context with the house inspired piano riff bringing back the house music vibes of the early 1990's.

A faithful rendition of the Isley Brothers Harvest For The World sounds like it was made to be written for Incognito with Mario Biondi sharing vocals.

With a DVD of the gig also included in the package this is a collection that is one not to be missed.
