Album Review - Erasure - The Violet Flame (Mute Records)

You have to admire Erasure for not resisting the temptation to go on one of these 1980's package tours that feature many of the 1980's pop acts and for sticking to their guns and still producing great new music.

Vince Clarke and Andy Bell have come up with another set of great songs. They have influenced many of today's pop acts such as Avicci and La Roux.

The album opens up with Dead of Night which sees the duo on top form. Elevation, the first single from the album should have been a bigger hit than it was; the track sees the duo in a more mature, reflective mode.

Elsewhere on the album the best tracks are Be The One, Paradise and Smoke and Mirrors. It is to be hoped that when they tour the UK in November they choose to play some of these fine tracks.

I give the album 3 out of 5
