Symon has had quite a journey over the last few years. Having studied music, he opted to take a job in accounts before a major life changing event caused him to rethink his goals. A chance meeting has lead to a record deal and made the prospect of a full-time music career feasible. We caught up with Symon to find out more.

We hear you are a former city boy. What did you used to do?

I worked for a company then called Reuters. I started working for the correspondence department and ended up in the accounts team.

Was music always a passion for you?

Yes it has always been, music is like a safe place for me more than a passion, I am passionate about guitars but creating songs is something I need to do.

Your son's illness prompted a big life change, is all well now?

Very much so. My son was diagnosed with a rare condition called Juvenile Dermio Myositis, is essentially when the immune system attacks itself. All is well now and he is in full remission. I am forever grateful to the specialists at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

How did you decide that busking was the way forward?

Busking became the only real option for me as a person because it allowed me time with my son and was also a great way release tensions.

Did you ever dream that a recording career would be a consequence?

No I did not think I would be signed whilst busking, I was just embracing the opportunity to perform and make a living.

How did it come about?

I was playing on London Underground station on a cold Wednesday morning, I had a nice audience. A smart man stood in front of me and handed me a business card... It turned out to be David Hockman who was responsible for signing some of the top artists including Sir Elton John and ABBA! I was later signed by David.

Your début single is Cherry Tree - tell us more?

Yes Cherry Tree is a metaphor for a place in time for each person. Everyone has a special place where they met whether with that person now or not.

What do you hope to achieve with the single?

I hope the single will be received well, I have no expectations at all. Music is so subjective and for me it will be a bonus if people like/buy it.

Lastly, what is your ultimate ambition?

My ultimate ambition would be to record an album in Nashville. If the album did well, I would love to be in a position start a series of music schools for those who have less opportunities.
