Review: Example - Leeds 02 Academy

Most dance acts are either faceless or they seem to be a one hit wonder. Example are quite the opposite and they have had a string of Top Ten hit singles over the years.

Elliot Gleave is a great front man; he is in total command of his audience. An Example gig is always a celebration, a big party if you like. He asks the audience to "jump as high as you can". To "put your arm around the person next to you" and to kiss the person next to you on the cheek". Of course most of the audience follow his instructions.

It helps too when you have a strong back catalogue of hits to choose from. Tonight's gig is a greatest hits set: Watch the Sun Come Up, Say Nothing and Kids Again are all great tracks. The perfect soundtrack to a great evening.

Wearing a multi-coloured T Shirt that has the figure 82 on the back (his year of birth) he informs the audience that "this is a great venue and Leeds is one of our favourite cities."

His newer material has more of a mellow edge, dedicating One More day (Stay with Me) to the ladies in the audience, the track is one of his best from his new album, although 10 Million People, his new single, sounds like another big hit.

It is hard to come away from an Example gig and not feel like you have been to a big party that you never want to end and the Leeds gig is no exception. The perfect example of how good a great show should be.
